Six Elements Theatre is proud to host a day of workshop classes in Intimacy for the Stage on Memorial Day, Monday May 27th.
What is Intimacy for the Stage? From the former website of Intimacy Directors International: "Intimacy for the Stage is choreographing of Moments of Intimacy in performance. The focus is on subtle and specific details in movement and intention, for the purpose of telling the story of the scene. This is not just "making out” or sex scenes, but can also encompass moments of intimacy found among dear friends, between parents and children, and can also cover scenes of sexual violence. Intimacy For The Stage has been enthusiastically received as a practice which empowers actors to respect their own boundaries while improving the quality and clarity of scenes of intimacy." |
Workshop Details
Consent and Boundaries, Chemistry and Connection: 9AM-12PM Our work as artists centers around the collective, collaborative experience. To curate and work in brave spaces, how do we communicate our consent with confidence or our boundaries with comfort? We will start our work with an exploration of the concept of consent, personal and negotiated boundaries, and how to develop communication pathways. After building the foundation of consent and clearly developing parameters for the storytelling, we’ll start the exploration of telling intimate stories with the spark. We’ll explore ways to sustainably portray chemistry and dive into the details that can take a stance or a glance from casual to flirtatious, a touch from offhand to on purpose, and a breath from inhaling to inspiring. Building Intimate Moments: 2PM-5PM (Prior Intimacy workshop experience required. Taking the morning session's Introduction qualifies) The stage has been set and the characters are connected. Now they come together for their story to blossom. But how do you build safe, sustainable choreography for intimate moments? We’ll discuss and practice choreographic elements, layers, and considerations actors, directors, or intimacy choreographers can implement to heighten the storytelling and deepen the audience’s engagement. No kissing will be choreographed. All contact will be navigated consensually. |
