Ian Rose - SAFD Fight Master, FDC Fight Master
Ian has arranged fights for commercials, film and stage, and been working in the New York and Philadelphia areas for over twenty-five years. Ian is a Fight Master with Fight Directors Canada and The Society of American Fight Directors. Ian has worked on Broadway (Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Liev Schrieber and Janet McTeer at the Booth), the Bridewell Theatre in London, MTM Studios in Rome, Riverside Shakespeare and Interborough Repertory Theatre in New York City, the Whole Theatre in New Jersey, and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. In Philadelphia, Ian has worked at the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, the Philadelphia Theatre Company (Adrift in Macao, Chris Durang premiere), the Wilma: Hamlet, The Octaroon, and James Ijames' FatHam (New York Times top ten shows of 2021), the Arden: Equivocation and A Streetcar Named Desire. Ian did fights and created the roles of La Böessiere and Picard in Curio Theatre Company’s recent Symphony for St. Georges. Ian's fights were featured in the documentary Philadelphia: The Great Experiment –Disorder. Ian was a Technical Advisor on the film A Winter’s Tale. Ian has earned a 4th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate and continues his studies in many varied styles of martial arts.
Michael Jerome Johnson - SAFD Fight Director Emeritus
Michael is happy to be back in Minneapolis and back at the Brawl. He was last in town during the summer of 2018 when he worked both as fight director and assistant director for Mill City Summer Opera’s Carmen.
Other recent fight directing work includes Flyin’ West at the University of Maryland, Too Heavy For Your Pockets with George Street Playhouse, Julius Caesar for both TASIS in Lugano, Switzerland and Brown/Trinity Rep, and, And In This Corner, Cassius Clay — which he also directed — co-produced by Childs Play and Black Theatre Troupe in Phoenix. Michael also served as Stunt Consultant for Rep Stage’s production of Kill Move Paradise.
Other workshops Michael has taught at include the Nationals Stage Combat Workshop, the New York Summer Sling (which he co-hosts with Michael Chin and the other members of Fights 4), the Allegheny Alley Fight, Cease and Desist, Philadelphia Cheesesteak, Dueling Arts International’s Winter Workshop, and the A-Town Throw Down. Michael had the pleasure of teaching at this year’s Winter Wonderland Workshop as well as the WWW Knife Intensive, where he had the pleasure to co-teach with his old friend, Don Preston.

Don Preston - SAFD Certified Teacher
Donald J. Preston has been working with and teaching for the Society of American Fight Directors for the last 26 years. Starting off as a “festy” in Minnesota and a student of Michael Anderson he has taught all over the world. Some of his favorite places have been the “boot camp” at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Exeter University in the UK and Immersion days at Park Square Theater in St. Paul.
He is currently in Chicago teaching SPT and SPR classes for MACE (and frankly anyone who wants a class.) Also having a great time choreographing local high school productions. She Kills Monsters is very popular right now.
He has a full schedule of workshops this year and is looking forward to seeing old friends and family members and hopefully making new ones

Kevin Inouye - SAFD Certified Teacher
Kevin Inouye (Certified Teacher, Theatrical Firearms Instructor) is Assistant Professor of Movement, Acting, and Stage Combat at Case Western Reserve University. He is a SAG-AFTRA stuntman, Certified Teacher with the National Michael Chekhov Association, Assistant Faculty with Theatrical Intimacy Education, and in Instructor training with the Margolis Method. He's an award-winning fight choreographer (SDC Affiliate), and runs a prop weapons rental business providing prop firearms, swords, and more for both stage and screen. He's published The Theatrical Firearms Handbook (2014) and The Screen Combat Handbook (2020), a chapter in Physical Dramaturgy (2018) with Routledge, and written and edited for The Fight Master. Kevin has provided services as fight choreographer or coordinator, actor, combatant, gun wrangler, and armorer with his company Fight Designer, LLC for 20+ years, on both coasts and in between, as well as teaching classes and workshops around the US, and at the Paddy Crean International Stage Combat workshops in Canada. Ashley White - SAFD Certified Teacher, IDC Intimacy Director
Ashley H. White is an award-winning director, fight & intimacy director, and teaching artist based in Dallas, TX. As a Director, she has helmed dozens of productions and provided Fight and/or Intimacy Direction for more than 40 other productions across the DFW Metroplex and beyond. Her work has been seen at the Tony Award-winning Dallas Theater Center, Stage West, Theater Three, Uptown Players, IMPRINT Theatreworks, and many other stages.
Ashley is one of only 19 Intimacy Directors certified by Intimacy Directors International and is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. She is the founder of SCDallas (est. 2012), North Texas’ only open resource for Stage Combat & Movement Instruction, and acts as the group’s President. SCDallas has over 700 members, is host to an annual Regional Workshop (The Lonestar Smash), and mounts regularly scheduled “Fight Nights” and workshops.

Dave Gonzalez - SAFD Certified Teacher
Originally from Chicago's western suburbs, Dave is a Certified Teacher of both Stage Combat and the Alexander Technique working in and around the city of Chicago. Among his credits as a fight director, he has worked with American Theatre Company, the Side Project, the Plagiarists, Clockwise Theatre, and several others. He is the co-founder of The Left Turn at Albuquerque Stage Combat Workshop, and also serves on the coordination staff for the Winter Wonderland Workshop.
Adam Fieldsen - Whipmaker
Adam Fieldson is the owner of WhipWorks LLC here in the Twin Cities, MN. When he was a kid, his family lived in Melbourne, Australia for a couple of years. He will never forget when his mom picked up a 4 foot stockwhip from a leather goods shop. He spent hours in the back yard learning how to break the sound barrier. Many years later, Adam attempted to make his first Bullwhip and the rest was history. With the growth of the WhipWorks YouTube channel and Etsy shop, Adam has been able to make bullwhips that have been sent all over the world. Adam feels very lucky to be able to support himself pursuing his passion for whip making. He is also a photographer as the owner of Fieldson Photography and a freelance vocalist around the Twin Cities.
